OVERVIEW OF THE SUBJECTS TAUGHT

The following are some of the important areas of knowledge taught by various tutors:

1. Gentix Nandi

• Child Development & Psychology– The unit looks into the overall understanding of children’s growth & development, their characteristics, needs and how they learn. It is also concerned with understanding children’s personality and how to help them adapt to different environments to facilitate their learning, not only in the school set up but also in the society as a whole.
• Health & Nutrition– The unit is concerned with helping the trainee understand health issues of the child in relation to common childhood diseases, immunization concept, good feeding habits, proper waste disposal and general strategies of promoting health and nutrition on the general population.
• Art & Craft and Physical Education– This is the knowledge that promotes aesthetic skills and development of one’s potential and talents in the process of learning. It is the area of knowledge that uses the most practical pedagogical approach on learners as it delves much on hands on activities, understanding our bodies and how they function.

2. Benson Otieno

• English– The field concerns with development of various skills in language, such as communication, encompassing the four basic language skills-listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as skills in social interaction. It also covers grammar, functional skills and analytical skills through literature review.
• Foundations of Education and Curriculum Studies– It deals with factors affecting education, philosophical and historical concepts in education as well as methods of assessing learners. It also deals with understanding curriculum in relation to structure, content, learning resources, methodology and evaluation procedures.
• Research, Educational Leadership and Education Assessment– the units help teacher trainees to understand their learning environment in relation to what ails institutions and learners in general based on education. The student develops the skills of investigation, analysis, problem solving and evaluation of information and ultimately provides logical solutions for the same. It also concerns with trainings on leadership skills and resource management.

3. Charles Osiemo

• Kiswahili- Somo hili hujihusisha na kujenga na kukuza stadi za lugha,  kwa mfano: mazungumzo, yanayoshughulika na ufahamu wa ujuzi  kama vile, kusikiliza, kuzungumza, kusoma na  kuandika. Pia, ujifunzaji wa sarufi na ufahamu wa matumizi ya lugha kimuktadha yatamwezesha mkurufunzi kuwasiliana kwa ufasaha na kwa namna
