Biography

Florence Suji is an accomplished leadership strategist and sustainability champion with over 20 years of experience driving transformative initiatives across Africa. A visionary at heart, she has built a powerful career at the intersection of corporate leadership, international development, education, and community empowerment — consistently demonstrating that when purpose meets action, real change becomes inevitable. She has successfully bridged the worlds of business, policy, and community impact, positioning herself as a leading voice in skills development, youth empowerment, ESG integration, and inclusive economic growth.

As the driving force behind the establishment of Toyota Kenya Academy, the first of its kind in Africa, Florence transformed it into a regional Centre of Excellence. Under her leadership, the Academy pioneered innovative programmes in automotive technology, agribusiness value chains, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills training. Through this platform, she empowered thousands of youth, women, and refugees with practical, market-driven skills that opened doors to dignified job opportunities and sustainable livelihoods. Her work demonstrated a deep commitment to linking training with real industry value chains, a model that continues to influence workforce development in the region today.

Over the years, Florence has taken on strategic leadership roles across the automotive and education sectors, championing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Environmental & Social Governance (ESG), and Technical & Vocational Education & Training (TVET). Her ability to build and sustain partnerships has enabled collaboration with global institutions including UNDP, UNHCR, USAID, AfDB, UN Women, JICA, and the Government of Japan, aligning private-sector investment with national development agendas. She is a Certified Lean Expert, Kaizen Practitioner, Mediator, Accredited Clarity4D Business Partner, and ESG Specialist, bringing both technical expertise and strong ethical leadership to every initiative she leads. She continues to serve as a council member for TVET Curriculum Development, Assessment and Certification Council (TVET CDACC), Enactus Kenya , Women Empowerpement(UK) and previously served in Kiambu National Polytechnic Council, Agency for Disability and Development in Africa (ADDA), Impact Philanthropy, Industrial Human Resource Committee (IHRD-JICA), KEPSA Education Sector Committee in addition to several advisory boards focused on education, gender empowerment, sustainability, and community resilience.

Florence’s impact goes beyond institutions and policy. She is deeply passionate about young people and inclusive opportunity, consistently dedicating her time to volunteer, mentor, and coach emerging leaders. She strongly believes that socio-economic background should never determine a young person’s future, which is why she actively supports scholarship programmes for less privileged students, designs empowerment initiatives for youth and women, and continues to invest in community-based training programmes. She frequently volunteers in schools and community centres, offering guidance, career mentorship, and motivational sessions aimed at restoring dignity and igniting purpose among youth who often feel overlooked. For her, human potential is Africa’s greatest untapped resource and empowering young people is not charity, but a strategic investment in the continent’s future.
